Windsor's 1 Cent (1%) Per Dollar Spent Local Sales Tax Measure Gains Support

The Press Democrat, Sonoma County's major daily newspaper, has endorsed Windsor's Measure I. The 1% local sales tax measure will be on the ballot Nov. 3. It is projected to bring Windsor some $5.7 million per year to maintain city services. Windsor is currently the only city in Sonoma County that does not have a penny or fraction-of-a-penny sales tax to help pay for city services.

The Town Council has already passed a resolution creating a Measure I Commission to review, advise and report on Measure I funding and all Measure I spending. The Measure I Commission will function similar to the Planning Commission and Parks and Recreation Commission. It will produce an annual public report detailing all Measure I revenue, funding on hand, and spending. The Measure I funding will be audited as part of the Town of Windsor's annual independent audit.

The PD ran the Measure I endorsement in its print edition Monday, Sept. 21.
